A fire beside the tracks at Lam Tin station on 13 October temporarily halted Kwun Tong Line services between Kwun Tong and Tiu Keng Leng during the evening rush. Trains between Kwun Tong and Whampoa continued every four minutes.
MTR closed Lam Tin station and arranged free shuttle buses between Kwun Tong, Lam Tin and Yau Tong. Citybus and The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd increased service on selected routes to carry affected passengers.
The disruption spilled onto nearby roads, with HK01 reporting crowded pavements and bus stops around Kwun Tong and severe congestion. One passenger told the outlet that the shuttle did not go to his intended destination in Kowloon Bay, so he ate nearby before returning to the reopened station; his journey was delayed by about half an hour.
Firefighters and MTR staff put out the fire, and Kwun Tong Line service gradually resumed later that evening. MTR said it suspected a short circuit had ignited insulation on turnout equipment beside the track and would investigate the cause further.
