A lorry’s cab caught fire near Kwai Chung Container Terminal No. 3 on the morning of August 28, with the blaze breaking out at about 10am to 10.35am. The driver escaped, and no injuries were reported.
Ming Pao reported that a passenger also jumped from the lorry with the driver and sought help. Star Headline mentioned only the driver escaping, so the passenger’s presence has not been independently confirmed in the reports.
Firefighters attended and used a hose to tackle the fire. Star Headline said one hose and one smoke team were deployed, and reported that the blaze had been extinguished by 11.37am.
The cab was badly damaged after being engulfed by flames. Star Headline also reported that the lorry was carrying several boxes of new air-conditioners at the rear, which firefighters moved out and sprayed with water. Both reports said nobody was injured.
Neither report gave a cause of the fire. The location was described variously as outside Terminal No. 3 or at the South Road No. 2 roundabout near the terminal, while the reported starting time also differed between about 10am and 10.35am.
