A 38-year-old mainland traveller has been charged after Customs officers found about 6kg of suspected cannabis flower and two boxes of products said to contain Part 1 poisons in his carry-on luggage at Hong Kong International Airport on 5 September. He had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, and was arrested during clearance.
The man faces one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and one count of possessing a Part 1 poison. The charges are allegations and do not amount to a conviction.
The case is scheduled to be heard at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court on 7 September.
Customs said it would step up efforts against cross-border drug trafficking through intelligence analysis and risk management. It also urged the public not to carry controlled items for others without first confirming what they are.
