Two village homes in Tai Po were burgled while their residents were away over the Chung Yeung holiday. Police received reports on 20 October from residents of Cheung Shue Tan Village and Wong Yi Au Village, and arrested a 50-year-old local man in Tin Shui Wai the following day. Police believe he was the group’s organiser.

Police said village CCTV and footage from a surveillance scheme linked the burglaries. Group members watched village areas during the afternoon, then entered homes after dark when they believed nobody was inside. At one house, a door to the rear staircase had been left unlocked; at the other, a ground-floor glass door was forced open.

Police said most of the stolen property was recovered at the arrested man’s home, including nine bottles of liquor valued at HK$27,000 and HK$9,000 in cash. The man was being held for investigation, and police said he would be charged.
