A 24-year-old mainland man was arrested at Hong Kong International Airport on 6 October after customs officers found approximately 5.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine in his hand luggage.

The passenger had arrived from Manila in the Philippines. Officers also found 45 untaxed cigarettes in the luggage, and the Customs and Excise Department estimated the combined market value of the suspected cocaine and cigarettes at about HK$4.1 million.

The case remained under investigation, according to the Customs and Excise Department.
