Red paint was found on the gate and noticeboard of the shared office of Legislative Council members Bill Tang and Chan Pui-leung at Sau Chi House, Sau Mau Ping Estate, on October 8.

A security guard reported the damage to police at around 6am. Police classified the case as criminal damage and later arrested a 66-year-old man in Sau Mau Ping on suspicion of the offence. He was detained for investigation.

After his arrest, the man said the office had not followed up his complaint, according to Ming Pao. The complaint concerned a request for help applying for a welfare allowance, and HK01, citing sources, reported that he had approached the office months earlier with incomplete information.

Tang said he, Chan and the office staff were safe, and that CCTV footage would be given to police.
