A 24-year-old man pleaded not guilty to two rape charges when his trial opened in the High Court on October 28, 2026. The charges relate to a camping trip in Sai Kung in November 2023.

The prosecution alleges that, after the complainant returned to her tent to sleep shortly after 1am on November 10, the defendant entered and raped her twice. The alleged offences took place at Wan Tsai South Campsite. The pair had arrived the previous day, when they cooked, drank alcohol and played games, according to the prosecution’s account.

X, who was 25 when she testified, gave evidence from behind a screen. She said she had made clear before the alleged assaults that she did not want sex. She told the court that the defendant entered her tent and forced penetration; she shouted that it hurt and kicked him, after which he left.

X testified that he later returned without a condom and penetrated her repeatedly. She said she was frightened, froze and told him to stop. The next morning, she said, she found a large amount of blood when she wiped herself.

The prosecution said the defendant apologised the following day and alleged that, at a later meeting with X and her brother, he admitted raping her, prompting X to report the matter to police.
