A man in his 70s died after being found unconscious in a fire at a Sai Ying Pun residential building. He was taken to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment after firefighters rescued him from the flat.

The fire broke out at about 8pm on October 19 in a middle-floor unit at 22–32 Pok Fu Lam Road. Firefighters took about an hour to extinguish it.

About 60 residents evacuated during the fire. A section of Pok Fu Lam Road was fully closed and several bus routes were diverted.

One resident told Star Headline that running downstairs left their legs weak and that they were terrified.

The cause of the fire and the man's death were both under investigation.
