A man believed to be in his 40s died after being found unconscious in the sea off Hung Hom Promenade on October 1, following a rescue at about 9pm.

A passer-by reported seeing what appeared to be a person floating near Kin Wan Street. Rescue personnel reached the scene, found the man about 30 metres from shore and brought him ashore.

An ambulance took him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for emergency treatment. An automated chest-compression device was used during the rescue and treatment, but an emergency-department doctor later certified him dead after resuscitation efforts.

Police were investigating how the man entered the water and his identity.
