A 31-year-old man has pleaded guilty in the District Court to 14 offences involving his 10-year-old half-sister and child sexual-abuse material. The offences comprise two counts of indecent conduct towards a child under 16, eight counts of producing child sexual-abuse material and four counts of possessing it.
The prosecution case presented in court covered the period from 2017 to 16 January 2024. Police searched the man's home on 16 January 2024 and found 208 items of child sexual-abuse material on digital devices, including material involving his half-sister and material downloaded from the internet.
The defence asked the court to consider a non-custodial sentence. The acting judge said the case was serious and declined to seek a community-service-order report.
Sentencing was adjourned to 8 December for a psychiatric report on the defendant and a trauma report concerning the victim. The defendant was remanded in custody during the adjournment.
