A 35-year-old medical assistant, Wong Chi-hang, has been convicted of indecently assaulting a female nurse in a ward at Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai. The offence date was 29 January 2026.
The complainant, referred to in court as Woman X, was measuring a patient’s blood pressure when she felt contact with her buttock for about one second. She turned and saw Wong leaving the passage between the beds, according to evidence reported by Star Headline.
Wong denied the charge and said he had accidentally collided with her while passing through a passage about one metre wide. He said he had been in a hurry to finish work, had to move sideways through the narrow space and that the contact lasted about one second.
Magistrate Wang Cheng-yu rejected the accidental-contact explanation. The magistrate said Wong could have asked the complainant to move first, which would have taken little time and would not have affected his work. Directly passing through the narrow passage and touching her therefore could not have been accidental, the court found.
The magistrate also accepted evidence from the arresting officer that Wong had briefly said he acted on impulse and touched the woman. The defence had challenged the complainant’s descriptions, saying she first referred to a warm object and later described a palm and fingers. The court found the descriptions could coexist and were not contradictory.
Wong was convicted, and the case was adjourned to 16 September 2026 for sentencing while a background report is prepared. The sentence has not yet been given.
