Hong Kong authorities received more than 70,000 registration applications for subdivided units by the 31 August deadline for the early-bird phase of the Basic Housing scheme, according to one report. Officials are continuing to process the applications and have said they will speed up the work.
Another report described the figure as registration applications involving more than 70,000 subdivided units, and said they covered about 20,000 residential units. The available information does not establish whether the reported number of applications and the number of units correspond one-to-one.
The scheme’s one-year registration period began on 1 March, with the early-bird phase ending on 31 August. Housing Secretary Winnie Ho said the early-bird incentive had led to a very significant increase in applications during August.
Ho said the team was continuing to handle the registrations. Applications with complete information and completed approval processes will be uploaded to a website for public inspection.
Separately, 120 applications for Basic Housing certification had been received by the Wednesday cited in one report. The report did not specify the date or how many of those applications had been approved.
