MTR will offer half-price fares on eligible journeys on Saturday, 24 October 2026, including cross-boundary trips to and from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau.
The discount covers MTR rail and light rail, as well as its buses serving the north-west New Territories. Passengers can use Octopus or JoyYou cards on those services; QR-code fares qualify on the heavy-rail network.
The offer does not cover East Rail first class, the Airport Express, MTR connecting buses or the Hong Kong section of high-speed rail. Physical and electronic single-journey tickets are excluded, as are contactless credit and debit cards.
The half-price fare can be combined with interchange discounts, fare-saver promotions, the monthly pass scheme’s connecting-journey fare at 75 per cent of the usual price, and the Government’s two-dollar concession scheme.
The fare day is part of MTR’s service-performance rebate arrangement. HK01 reports that, under the mechanism introduced in 2023, special fare days are held when MTR’s account reaches a preset HK$25 million, with the accumulated money returned to passengers through those days.
