The new Huanggang Port handled more than 80,000 passenger movements on an average weekday during its opening days, up from about 30,000–40,000 previously, Security Secretary Tang Ping-keung said. It opened on Monday, October 12, and Friday’s total was more than 92,000.
Tang expects the busiest day of the three-day holiday period to exceed 100,000 movements. He said waits were generally under five minutes and stayed below 15 minutes at the busiest times. Under the cooperative inspection arrangement, passengers complete clearance without joining a second queue; Tang said the process was at least four times faster than before.
A traveller interviewed by i-CABLE on the holiday’s first day said she came from APM, boarded at 8.40am and arrived at 9.16am. She described the journey as convenient; she had previously found getting on and off vehicles troublesome on her weekly trips for acupuncture.
