Firefighters rescued a cat trapped on an exterior air-conditioning unit ledge at a North Point building after a public call for help on October 14. The cat repeatedly poked its head out while on the ledge, according to the Hong Kong Fire Services Department.

The department said the cat was brought to safety, checked and found to have no injuries before being returned to its owner.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) reported that more than one-fifth of the 274 cat-at-height cases it received in 2024 ended with the cats falling to their deaths before rescuers arrived, HK01 reported.

The organisation recommends sturdy, claw-resistant safety mesh on windows and balconies, with openings no wider than 4cm and every side secured and locked.
