A 72-year-old Wuyuan Medical employee in North Point has been sentenced to 160 hours of community service after pleading guilty to practising as a dentist in Hong Kong without registration. The sentence was imposed on 21 October.
The offence took place at the clinic on 7 July. Court proceedings heard that he used an instrument to scan customers’ mouths and displayed the images on a screen. He also photographed them with his phone, saying they would be sent to mainland China for analysis.
He told customers they could receive consultation and an initial scan at the clinic, but treatment would take place at its Shenzhen branch. The employee advised customers to have X-rays and teeth whitening. The magistrate described the offence as serious but cited the scan’s low invasiveness and the fact that the clinic’s service limits had been explained when imposing the community-service order.
