The Development Bureau plans to provide 1 million square metres of economic floor space in the Northern Metropolis over the next five years. Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho said it is intended for innovation-and-technology industries, not traditional commercial use.
During a Legislative Council debate on 8 October, legislator Augustine Wong Ho-ming said office vacancy remained persistently high in non-core areas. He relayed industry concern that the planned development could worsen conditions there.
Linn said the planned space would not affect current vacant commercial floor space in core business districts.
