Ocean Park Hong Kong plans to open a Marine Mammal Conservation Centre and a new panda exhibit as part of its 50th-anniversary programme. The anniversary falls on 10 January 2027; the centre is scheduled to open that month, while the panda exhibit is expected in the third quarter.
The centre will replace the former North Pole Encounter. Its displays are to include the skeleton of a whale that stranded and died in Sai Kung in 2023, alongside the park’s work on stranding investigations and marine research.
The panda exhibit will reorganise the animals’ habitats and include an elevated viewing platform. Care and veterinary teams will be able to monitor the pandas’ health and daily lives, while visitors may watch care work at close range.
The water park is due to stay open this winter. The park has scheduled weekend concerts and other activities for November, followed by a carnival in December.
Ocean Park is also inviting the public to contribute photographs, written memories and audio for an anniversary archive. Selected submissions may be used as the basis for promotional videos or displayed on the park’s website. Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law shared a 2012 photograph of herself riding the cable car with her father, who was 80 at the time. She said he had since died and described the picture as a precious memory.
Submissions are due by 15 December. Selected contributors may receive an annual pass or tickets.
