Opatra London’s branches at Sha Tin New Town Plaza and Yuen Long’s YOHO Mall suspended operations on August 16, 2026, as police confirmed receiving a report linked to a sales dispute and Customs is following up on the matter.
The dispute followed the circulation of a video showing a middle-aged woman crying and kneeling outside the Sha Tin shop. She alleged that staff had used questionable sales tactics involving about HK$60,000. Her identity and full transaction records have not been provided, and the allegations have not been established.
The Hong Kong shop said the transaction process was compliant and transparent, and denied forcing the customer to spend. It said it had offered a discretionary refund of HK$16,000 after the customer’s ability to make repayments became a problem, but that she refused to accept it. The available information does not independently confirm the details of the transaction or refund arrangement.
The shop also alleged that the customer had repeatedly caused disturbances at its outlets and published defamatory videos. It said it had collected evidence and reserved the right to pursue legal responsibility. There is no information showing that legal proceedings have been filed, and the allegations have not been independently verified.
Opatra London’s UK head office said it does not own or operate the brand’s shops in Hong Kong. It said the Sha Tin branch is independently owned and operated by a local company under a distribution agreement, with the distributor fully responsible for its operations.
The UK company said it had asked its Hong Kong distribution partner to provide a comprehensive written explanation and would independently review sales practices at the Hong Kong shops. It said it regretted the customer’s experience and would fully co-operate with relevant Hong Kong authorities. The police and Customs follow-up remains ongoing, while the reasons for the two branches’ suspension, its duration and their future arrangements have not been disclosed.
