OPATRA London’s UK headquarters said on 21 August 2026 that it and its Hong Kong distributor had mutually agreed to suspend their distribution agreement, following an investigation linked to alleged improper sales practices at a Sha Tin store.
Reports said Hong Kong Customs arrested two managers connected with the company over suspected violations of the Trade Descriptions Ordinance. The allegations concern the brand’s cosmetics store in New Town Plaza, Sha Tin, including a case in which a 58-year-old woman was said to have spent more than HK$60,000 on products. The reported conduct has not been established as fact.
Hong Kong Customs had received 25 related reports as of 20 August and said the case remained under investigation. The Consumer Council said on 21 August that it had received complaints from eight consumers about alleged improper business practices by the merchant.
The UK headquarters said the Hong Kong store was independently owned and operated by a local distributor. It also said the store’s personnel were hired and managed entirely by that distributor and were not OPATRA London employees or holders of positions within the company.
The headquarters said it would fully co-operate with inquiries from relevant Hong Kong authorities and would not comment on the ongoing investigation. It said it would continue reviewing the situation as further information became available.
OPATRA London said Hong Kong remained an important market and that its commitment to Hong Kong customers and consumers was unchanged.
The investigation remains ongoing. The material available does not specify the duration of the suspension, whether the stores will continue operating during it, or whether anyone has been charged or convicted.
