Giant panda twins Jia Jia and De De celebrated their second birthday at Ocean Park in Hong Kong with their mother, Ying Ying. Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law said the cubs would soon need to live separately as they grow older.
Law said the celebration with Ying Ying was particularly significant because the twins are growing into adulthood. She described them as agile and playful, and said the pandas weigh almost 60 kilogrammes.
The source did not specify when the change would take place or the precise living arrangements for the cubs.
Ocean Park’s birthday programme includes a five-metre-tall panda-themed bun tower and a photo area featuring more than 60 sculptures.
The birthday celebrations are scheduled to continue through the end of August.
