The reservation-controlled Po Pin Chau Section received about 950 visitors a day on average from October 1 to 7, peaking at about 1,200 on October 5, according to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.
The department adjusted the number of booking places it released in response to conditions at the entrance. Entry was temporarily suspended on October 2 and 3 because of bad weather.
The department said a survey of more than 300 visitors found most were satisfied with the booking platform and entry arrangements; it also said the reservation system had effectively controlled crowds and made visits to the lookout smoother than before. Monitoring by staff and drones found visitor flows along the trail and at the lookout generally smooth, with a substantial decrease in visitors approaching danger areas or crossing barriers.
At the Ham Tin, Sai Wan and Long Ke campsites, the department counted about 80 tents on the evening of October 6. Across the three sites, the daily average was about 240 tents from October 1 to 6.
