Police arrested a 26-year-old man on October 15 after linking him to three alleged incidents in which women were splashed with an unidentified liquid on escalators between January and October. The man was reported to work as an IT technician.

In the October 2 incident at Tsim Sha Tsui Station, a woman reported that a man behind her splashed liquid on her lower leg. Police said she confronted him and was seriously injured in a struggle as he tried to flee. HK01 reported that the woman later described her finger as fractured in an online account.

Police received her report on October 12. Investigators then found online discussions of similar incidents in January and contacted two women who had described similar experiences. One had posted about what happened online but had not initially made a formal report, HK01 reported. Police linked those incidents to a station and a shopping mall in the Tsim Sha Tsui area.

Police said the substance of the liquid had not been established; HK01 reported that test results were pending.

HK01 reported that the man was provisionally charged with three counts of indecent assault and one count of assault. He was due to appear at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on October 17.
