At about 8am on August 15, a man reported that two men of African appearance had attacked him and taken his mobile phone and wallet at the junction of Wyndham Street and D’Aguilar Street in Central, according to a report by Star Headline.

Police searched the area with the man but did not find anyone matching his description. Officers also checked nearby closed-circuit television footage and found no such suspects, the report said.

When officers arrived, they found the man smelled of alcohol. He said he had a headache and had a plaster on his left heel, but reported no other injuries.

The report said police believed he might have lost the phone and wallet after drinking to the point of blacking out. That was a police suspicion and was not independently confirmed. The man was later allowed to leave. There was no information on whether he formally withdrew or changed his original account, whether the belongings were recovered, or what further action police would take.
