Police are investigating after two mainland men reportedly presented a bank cashier’s order at HSBC’s branch at 673 Nathan Road, Mong Kok, on 4 September 2026 and asked for its value to be transferred to a company account. The incident was reported at about 10am to 11am.
Bank staff suspected the document was counterfeit and contacted police. The suspected forgery has not been confirmed, and the recipient company has not been identified in the reports.
Police attended the branch and detained at least one 40-year-old mainland man for investigation, according to reports. The case was handled as a suspected false-document offence, with one report saying it was followed by Team 8 of the Mong Kok Police District Criminal Investigation Team.
The reported value of the cashier’s order is disputed. Ming Pao and Star Headline reported that it was worth HK$14 million, while i-CABLE News put the figure at HK$10 million.
Reports also give different accounts of what happened to the two men. Star Headline said police arrested one man, while Ming Pao and i-CABLE News reported that both men were taken to a police station or taken away for investigation.
