Police said officers raided a suspected illegal fuel station on Man Kam To Road in Ta Kwu Ling on October 12. The station was suspected of being controlled by a triad. Officers seized about 6,000 litres of diesel worth an estimated HK$230,000 and found a large quantity of fuelling equipment.

The station was next to a construction site and had no dedicated fire-safety installations or equipment, police said. They warned that a fire could pose a serious threat to nearby residents and buildings.

Officers intercepted a 66-year-old local man suspected of operating the station. Police said he would be prosecuted over alleged breaches of fire-safety and dangerous-goods rules. The Hong Kong Fire Services Department had taken the diesel and planned to apply to court for its forfeiture, HK01 reported.

The department’s 24-hour hotline for reporting suspected illegal fuel activity is 5577 9666.
