The Hong Kong Police Force warned on 6 October that a fraudulent website impersonating the eTraffic Ticket Platform was offering a discount for early payment of traffic fines and seeking payment-card and personal information.
The police said traffic-ticket fines do not have discount schemes. Drivers can check a genuine notice at https://www.etrafficticket.gov.hk by entering the vehicle registration number and the number on the fixed-penalty notice. The platform then displays details such as the alleged violation’s date, time and location.
Genuine electronic traffic-ticket text messages are sent under the sender name “#HKPF-eTT”, and traffic-ticket notices sent by text message or email contain no hyperlinks. The police said official Hong Kong government website domains end in “.gov.hk”.
People should not click suspicious links, sign into unfamiliar websites or provide personal information. Anyone who has entered details on a fake site should contact the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) on 18222. Questions about the eTraffic Ticket Platform can be directed to 181 181.
