A paper shredder caught fire in an office in the west wing of Hong Kong Police Headquarters on Arsenal Street, Wan Chai, on the morning of 8 September 2026. A policewoman who was using the machine was injured.

The reports gave slightly different timings for the incident. Ming Pao described it as happening at about 10am, while Star Headline reported that the fire occurred at 10.57am.

Firefighters arrived after the fire had gone out, according to Ming Pao. The injured officer was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital and was conscious when she was sent there, the reports said.

The reports differed in their descriptions of her injuries. Star Headline said she had burns to her face, while Ming Pao reported injuries to her face and hands or forearms. Ming Pao also said that part of her hair had been singed and that dressings or bandages covered parts of her injuries.
