An outage began at about 7pm on October 22 in Sha Kok Mei, Sai Kung, affecting about 50 village houses, according to legislator Christine Fong Kwok-shan.

Fong relayed residents’ reports that they had noticed smoke on a footpath and smelled something burning before the power cut.

CLP arranged a temporary electricity supply while engineers made repairs. A company spokesperson said power had been restored to all affected customers by 11.15pm that night.

The cause had not been confirmed. Fong said the preliminary suspicion was that an underground cable was involved.

She called on CLP to strengthen or renew cables proactively, particularly in rural areas.
