A 28-year-old student nurse at Queen Mary Hospital has admitted two theft charges and three attempted-theft charges involving lockers in the hospital’s nurses’ dormitory. She remains in custody after the hearing, and Acting Judge Yu Chun-cheong said she could face imprisonment. Sentencing was adjourned to 23 September 2026.
The two thefts involved lockers used by two female nurses. The items included a brown Gucci wallet, a Celine handbag, a Loewe cardholder and Audi car keys.
In the first case, a nurse placed the Gucci wallet in a dormitory locker on 13 October 2024 and later found it missing. It contained identity documents, a Home Return Permit, credit and ATM cards, a driving licence, a Shenzhen Tong card and about HK$200 in cash. A credit card from the wallet was later used in three attempted payment transactions totalling about HK$226, but all failed.
The second case concerned a Celine handbag that another nurse placed in a locker on 19 March 2025. The bag and items inside it, including the Loewe cardholder and Audi car keys, later disappeared. The defendant was arrested on 27 March 2025.
In a police-caution video interview, the defendant said she took items after work from lockers that were either unlocked or partly open. She said she sold the Celine handbag for HK$3,000, the cardholder for HK$300 and the wallet for between HK$500 and HK$600.
The defence said the defendant had been under pressure from an ex-boyfriend who repeatedly borrowed money after gambling, and that she had lent him about HK$100,000. It also said she was balancing clinical training with part-time nursing work while dealing with family illness or bereavement. These were mitigation submissions by the defence.
The court ordered compensation, with reports putting the amount at more than HK$9,000 and nearly HK$10,000. The defendant remains in custody pending the sentencing hearing on 23 September 2026.
