A registered male Chinese medicine practitioner has been convicted of five voyeurism offences involving three female patients and remanded in custody pending sentence. Magistrate Cheng Yun-chung rejected his explanation for filming intimate areas at Chinese medicine clinics in Kwai Chung, Mei Foo and Chai Wan.
According to Star Headline, the charges alleged that patient X was filmed at a clinic in Tai Wo Hau, Kwai Chung, on 28 December 2022. Patient Y was allegedly filmed at a clinic on King Lai Path in Mei Foo on 19 March, 2 April and 7 May 2024, while patient Z was allegedly filmed at a clinic in Hing Wah Plaza, Chai Wan, on 28 April 2024.
The practitioner denied the charges. Reports said he claimed the filming was intended to document acupuncture treatment or provide material for reference and improvement, and denied having a voyeuristic intention.
The magistrate found that the filming of the patients’ intimate areas was not authorised and that they did not know they were being filmed. There was no evidence that the three patients had signed statements consenting to the recordings, or that a third party was present, the reports said.
Star Headline reported that the magistrate found the practitioner understood the sensitivity of filming intimate areas and was not affected by autism when the offences took place. The magistrate also criticised his use of autism as a defence, according to the report.
The practitioner has been remanded for a psychological report. Sentencing has been adjourned until 15 September 2026, and no sentence has yet been imposed.
