A retired man in his 60s denied one count of cruelty to animals at Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts on October 7. The charge alleges he injured a dog with a sickle and caused it unnecessary suffering in Siu Lam Village on November 14, 2025.

The dog’s owner told the court it returned with visible injuries on its back. He said the defendant told him he had “just pushed” the dog and claimed it had fought his family’s dog. The owner later found a deep, L-shaped wound near the earlier injury, and said the dog had already died by the time he sought veterinary help.

The defendant testified that three dogs attacked his family’s dog, then a black dog charged at him and bit his lower leg. He said he raised a hand to fend it off and struck the dog with the sickle in the confusion.

Under cross-examination, the owner said he had not heard that the dog had attacked the defendant or his family’s dog, and did not agree with the suggestion. The trial was adjourned to October 27 for continuation.
