Residents, drivers and public-transport users should expect extensive disruption on Sunday as road closures for the 2026 Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon begin in phases from 1am across West Kowloon, East Kowloon and the southern New Territories. The Transport Department expects 120 franchised bus routes and seven public light-bus routes to be diverted, shortened or have stops relocated.

The three main events will start and finish at Museum Drive in the West Kowloon Cultural District. More than 6,000 people have registered, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board's general manager for programme and tourism-product development. The festival programme is scheduled to run from 5:15am to 6pm.

The first event is a 56-kilometre non-competitive ride, starting at 5:15am and passing through five tunnels and three bridges. It will also use the Central Kowloon Bypass, including its Yau Ma Tei section, which will be affected by the cycling festival for the first time.

Roads inside the West Kowloon Cultural District will close from 1am. Bus and public light-bus stops, taxi stands and pick-up points, fleet taxi parking areas, private car parks and roadside parking spaces within the affected area will also be unavailable until the roads reopen.

The Central Kowloon Bypass towards Kowloon Bay will close from 2am, followed by the opposite carriageway towards Yau Ma Tei from 7am. Both directions, along with other affected roads, are expected to reopen in phases by about 1:15pm. The Transport Department forecasts significantly heavier traffic than on a typical Sunday on the Lantau Link towards Kowloon, Tsuen Wan Road, Jordan Road, Ferry Street, Lin Cheung Road, the East Kowloon Corridor, Kai Tak Tunnel, Lung Cheung Road and Ching Cheung Road.

Vehicles travelling from Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the eastern New Territories to the airport and Lantau are not expected to be affected. Vehicles from the western New Territories travelling to the airport or Lantau will need to divert via Tsuen Wan Road, Tsuen Wan West Interchange, Tsing Tsuen Road, Tsing Tsuen Bridge, Tam Kon Shan Interchange and Tsing Yi North Coastal Road to Tsing Ma Bridge because Ting Kau Bridge towards Kowloon will be closed.
