A 79-year-old taxi driver was jailed for six weeks and disqualified from driving for two years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm at Eastern Magistrates’ Courts on 8 October.

The case concerned a collision on 15 February on Java Road in North Point. The taxi struck a trolley being pushed by a 74-year-old woman, who fell and was taken to hospital. She was diagnosed with a brain haemorrhage, received intensive-care treatment and was still unconscious when the case was heard.

The sentencing magistrate said the driver had not been speeding or breaking other traffic rules, but should have seen the woman and slowed down. He must also complete a driving-improvement course at his own expense.
