A 19-year-old casual worker has pleaded guilty to attacking a visitor from Singapore with corrosive liquid in Wan Chai. The woman suffered chemical burns over about one-tenth of her body.

The attack happened on 8 June 2025, when the woman had met her sister and was leaving The Hennessy building to get into a private car her sister had arranged. She fell and cried out in pain, and the driver called police.

She suffered second-degree burns to her legs. She underwent multiple operations and spent 61 days in hospital in Hong Kong before returning to Singapore for further treatment. A laboratory report identified the liquid as sulphuric acid with a concentration of 69%.

On 15 October 2026, the defendant admitted one count of administering a corrosive liquid with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the High Court. He was 17 at the time of the attack. The court adjourned sentencing to 29 October for a background report and remanded him in custody.
