An online dashcam video reportedly showed several men approaching a taxi in Mong Kok at about 10pm on 26 September. One man forced open the left rear door before another struck a passenger with an extendable baton. The driver then drove away through a red light.
The taxi was stopped at the junction of Argyle Street and Sai Yeung Choi Street South. Police said a taxi driver reported at 2.44am the following morning that someone had waved a stick. The driver suspected the person had used it to damage the taxi.
Officers arrested a 17-year-old local male in Tseung Kwan O on 29 September on suspicion of criminal damage, police said.
He was temporarily charged with one count of criminal damage and appeared at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on the morning of 30 September. Police said the operation was continuing.
