Three women appeared at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on 3 September after allegedly arguing and fighting in the atrium of APM in Kwun Tong on 26 August. All were granted HK$5,000 cash bail and barred from entering APM or contacting prosecution witnesses.
The defendants are 68-year-old retiree Leung Lai-ha, 34-year-old unemployed two-way permit holder Xu Yang, and 34-year-old insurance worker Ng Ka-yuen. All three face a charge of taking part in an unlawful fight in a public place.
Leung is also charged with common assault over an allegation that she slapped a girl at the same place and time. The charge concerns an alleged act and has not been established in court.
Reports said the dispute may have begun when children competed to use play equipment or a play area, before pushing and a physical confrontation took place.
Xu was assisted by a Putonghua interpreter. Her bail conditions also prohibit her from leaving Hong Kong and from discussing the case with the prosecution’s first witness, described as her daughter.
The defence sought an adjournment to obtain documents and discuss alternative ways of dealing with the case. The court granted the application and adjourned proceedings to 5 November.
The available reports do not clearly establish whether the 5 November listing will be a trial, a further mention or another procedural hearing. The allegations against all three women remain unresolved.
