The Transport Department is planning activities for the public to experience the autonomous-vehicle project in Tung Chung. It has encouraged the operator to collect passenger feedback and use it to improve the technology.

The plan follows an October 10 inspection by the Department’s Autonomous Vehicle Applications Promotion Working Group. Members rode autonomous private cars around the town-centre area; these were inspection rides, not public trials. The project’s testing area had been expanded earlier in the year to include Tung Chung and cross-district testing.

The Department and the pilot operator are expected to present the proposed activity to the Islands District Council on October 13.
