The trial of 40-year-old Mei Cheuk-wah opened in the District Court on 7 September 2026 over an allegation that he had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl in a private car at a Tsim Sha Tsui car park in September 2021. Mei denies the charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 16.
The prosecution said the girl, identified in court as X, and her mother would not give evidence. The judge said X’s age at the time of the alleged offence was a key element of the charge and directed both sides to file written submissions on how it could be proved.
The prosecution’s opening case was that X was born in 2006 and met Mei through the Skout dating app in 2021. Reports said they later described themselves as a couple, communicated through WhatsApp and Telegram, and referred to each other as “BB”. X reported the alleged incident to police on 17 January 2023, the prosecution said.
According to the prosecution’s account of Mei’s caution interview, he said the sexual activity was consensual. The interview record stated that the pair had arranged to visit a museum, after which Mei parked in Tsim Sha Tsui and they had sex in the car, using a condom. It also recorded his account that they had sex again in July 2022. The defence said it would challenge the caution interview record.
The alleged relationship and sexual encounters remain matters for the court to determine. The prosecution must also prove the elements of the charge, including the relevant age issue; the supplied court report did not establish whether Mei accepted that he knew X was under 16.
The case was adjourned to 8 September 2026 for continuation. Mei was reported to remain on bail while the court considers how X’s age may be established and how the disputed caution interview should be treated.
