Tuen Mun police arrested 22 people during a seven-day anti-youth-crime and prevention operation, after patrolling several crime hotspots in the district, police said on August 21, 2026. The arrests involved 19 males and three females aged between 13 and 33, including 18 people aged between 13 and 20.
Police said the cases involved suspected offences including trafficking in dangerous drugs, criminal damage and possession of offensive weapons. Other reported suspected offences included assault occasioning actual bodily harm, indecent assault, driving without a licence, drug possession and leaving without payment.
Police alleged that some adults had supplied drugs to young people or lured them into offending with promises of making quick money. Police also said some of those arrested had been influenced by money or peers. These were allegations made by police, and the arrests do not establish that any individual is guilty.
Six of those arrested were charged, while the others were released on bail pending further investigation. They must report to police in late September 2026, according to police.
Police said they would continue patrolling places where young people gather and gather intelligence through the internet and social media to target people who use young people to commit offences. Through the Police School Liaison Programme, officers will also work with schools and parents’ associations to hold talks on drugs, scams and law-abiding behaviour.
