Hong Kong had recorded 29 severe cases of influenza among children this season, according to reports published on 7 November. i-CABLE News reported that two of the children had died.
Mike Kwan Yat-Wah, an honorary clinical associate professor in paediatric and adolescent medicine, warned that children with flu could deteriorate quickly. He said some had developed sudden low blood pressure and problems affecting organs including the heart and liver.
Kwan urged parents to seek medical care promptly if a child develops flu symptoms. Abdominal pain or persistent vomiting may be signs of myocarditis, he said.
