Two Mercedes private cars collided on the Yuen Long-bound Fanling Highway near the Wo Hop Shek exit at about 4am on September 1. No one was reported injured.
Reports said a black Mercedes four-wheel-drive vehicle struck a red Mercedes from behind. Both vehicles then lost control and hit construction water-filled barriers in the fast lane, destroying about 20 metres of them.
The black vehicle overturned on its left side, with visible damage to its roof and rear, while the front of the red Mercedes was badly damaged. The black vehicle carried a cross-border licence plate.
Police were reported to have found that the black vehicle’s 47-year-old driver, surnamed Cheung, smelled of alcohol. He was taken to a police station for investigation and later given a verbal warning. The reports did not establish an alcohol-test result or confirm a drink-driving offence.

A tow truck later righted the overturned black Mercedes before removing it, according to Star Headline. The reports did not provide further details of the police’s final handling of the case or clarify the red-car driver’s status.
