Two women were arrested after an alleged altercation at Kwun Tong’s APM shopping mall in which a five-year-old girl was reportedly slapped. The dispute is said to have begun between two families over the use of play facilities.
Video circulating online appears to show the girl being pushed or slapped by a woman and falling backwards, before bystanders intervened and helped move her away. Accounts differ over whether she was pushed, slapped or subjected to both actions, and the precise sequence remains unclear.
Police said two women were arrested. Reports identified them as the girl’s 34-year-old mother and a 68-year-old woman allegedly involved in slapping the child. The reported suspected offences were assault and assault occasioning bodily harm. The older woman was described as the mother of one of the women involved in the dispute.
The girl’s mother was also reportedly suspected of assaulting another 34-year-old woman involved in the dispute. That account describes allegations under investigation and does not establish that an assault occurred.
People involved in the incident were taken to United Christian Hospital for treatment. Reports differed on the number: one said three people were treated, while another said four people were injured and required hospital care.
An earlier report said three women had been arrested, but later reporting and police information cited two arrests. The supplied reports therefore do not establish the final number of arrests, people injured or treated, or whether any charges followed.
The Kwun Tong District Crime Division was investigating the incident. No outcome of the investigation was provided in the reports.
