A fire at a vegetable stall at 8 Hung On Lane in Hung Shui Kiu on October 13 left its cat coughing and short of breath after suspected smoke inhalation. The cat was not burned.
Neighbours took the cat to a veterinary clinic, where it received oxygen treatment. The stall owner later went to the clinic and took the cat back to the stall.
Neighbours later found the cat in a cage at the stall and called police. Officers found there was not enough food and water in the cage and arrested the stall owner on suspicion of cruelty to animals.
The cat was taken into the care of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong).
