The Wang Fuk Court independent committee will have until the end of October 2026 to submit its final report after Chief Executive John Lee approved an extension to the deadline, the committee said on August 18. It expects to complete its work by the revised date.

The committee said its terms of reference cover numerous and complex matters involving many parties. It said more time was needed to analyse and study the information submitted during the inquiry.

It is processing written evidence and other materials, including more than one million files, while additional material is still being received, according to the committee. Drafting of the report has begun.

According to RTHK, the committee was established by the Chief Executive on December 12 of the previous year and formally began work on December 19. Its original target was to complete the report within nine months.

The committee has conducted site visits, heard 30 days of oral testimony from 80 witnesses, and examined expert reports and legal submissions, according to RTHK.

The committee said it would continue its work according to the principles of fairness, openness and impartiality. It said each item of information would be considered before its findings were finalised.

The specific submission date in October and the contents of the committee’s final findings and recommendations have not been announced. The committee said it expects to submit the report by the end of that month.
