A burst in Ching Lung House’s fresh-water system sent water into the lift shafts, putting all eight lifts out of service.

HK01 reported that a resident on the 21st floor walked down at 7am to take her child to school. Later, she rested in a park and said she would wait for the lifts to return rather than climb back home. Management offered meal deliveries and help accompanying elderly residents in and out of the building.

Repair workers pumped out water and began emergency repairs on 14 October. One high-level lift reopened around noon; Ming Pao reported that by 5pm three lifts were operating, serving the high, middle and lower floors.
