The Hong Kong Observatory forecasts a high of 33°C in urban areas on Wednesday, 21 October. Its district forecast puts Sheung Shui at 37°C at 2pm, Tin Shui Wai at 36°C and Yuen Long at 35°C; the latter three readings were described as reaching the “extremely hot” level.
The Observatory forecast that Wednesday could break the record for the latest hot-weather day in a year, set on 19 October 2024. The forecast heat is expected to continue later in the week as sinking air around CHAMPI brings sunny, hot and very dry conditions to southern China.
Its latest track outlook has CHAMPI more likely to turn north over the East China Sea, east of Taiwan, though another possible route would bring it closer to Taiwan and Fujian. The forecast track remains outside Hong Kong’s 800-kilometre warning threshold.
Friday, 23 October, is Frost’s Descent, when Hong Kong’s average temperature is about 24°C; the forecast high is 33°C. The Observatory forecast a minimum relative humidity of 35% on Friday.
