Residents can now use the improved sports and recreation facilities at Woh Chai Shan in Sham Shui Po, including new table-tennis tables, fitness equipment and safety mats. The facilities opened to the public on 5 October 2026.

The upgrade also repaired signs, railings and shelters and added seating. The works covered recreation areas on the hill, including slopes beside Berwick Street that run from the foot of the hill to its summit.

The Home Affairs Department said the government cleared unlawful and unsafe structures and miscellaneous items from the hill in two stages by mid-August. The final improvement works were completed by the end of September.

The clearance followed more than a decade of problems involving privately installed sports and religious facilities on government land, including table-tennis tables and a religious altar, as well as environmental and safety concerns. The department said the government had taken the community’s need for sports facilities into account and hoped the project would improve both facilities and safety.

On the opening morning, more than 10 local residents were already using the facilities.
