The Department of Health searched four premises providing beauty services in Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long on October 16 and 20. At premises in Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok, it seized more than 100 suspected Part 1 poisons and more than 70 suspected unregistered pharmaceutical products, including 20 units of Elravie Re2O.

The product’s packaging had Korean-language markings indicating that it was for injection and claimed it contained human tissue. The Department said Elravie Re2O is both a regulated product under the Human Organ Transplant Ordinance and a pharmaceutical product under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance.

The Department said it had received an application for an exemption for the regulated product and was processing it, but had granted no exemption. It had received no application to register the product as a pharmaceutical product. The Department also said the product lacked clinical safety data and posed a public-health risk.

Police arrested a 38-year-old woman during a joint search with the Department in Mong Kok. She is suspected of illegally possessing Part 1 poisons and unregistered pharmaceutical products, and of commercially dealing in human organs.

The Department advises that injection procedures, as medical procedures, should be carried out only by locally registered doctors or registered dentists.
