A 35-year-old woman remains in hospital in stable condition after developing suspected botulinum-toxin poisoning following a facial injection at a residential unit in Tsim Sha Tsui. The health protection authority is investigating the case.
The injection took place on 17 September. According to information she provided to the authority, it involved both sides of her forehead, the area between her eyebrows and her jawline.
The following day, she developed drooping eyelids, breathing difficulty and weakness in all four limbs. She attended the emergency department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and remained in hospital for treatment.
The woman believed the person who administered the injection was a registered doctor, but she could not confirm that person’s name or qualifications. The authority advised that botulinum-toxin injections should be carried out by a locally registered doctor, and that consumers should obtain the doctor’s full name and check their professional qualifications and relevant experience.
